Cancer and Blood Care

TriHealth Cellular Therapy Program

Cellular therapy is the process of using a patient’s own cells to help the immune system fight many conditions, including cancer. There are many cell types that have the potential to be modified and used in a therapy.

Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy

TriHealth’s approach to cellular therapy is unique to other health care systems in the Cincinnati area. Our outpatient-focused program allows patients to recover in the comfort of their own home, while still being closely monitored by healthcare professionals through 24/7 access to specialized cancer care. Our program has received FACT accreditation which demonstrates that TriHealth meets the highest quality standards for cellular therapy, and our care team members are well trained and equipped to provide high quality, specialized care.

What is Cellular Therapy?

Cellular therapy uses a patient’s own cells rather than chemical compounds or molecules to fight cancer. In autologous stem cell transplantation, the patient’s own blood-forming stem cells are collected, frozen, stored, and then given back to the patient after high-dose chemotherapy to restore the ability to make healthy blood cells again. CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) T-cell therapy uses your body's immune system to fight cancer. It works by collecting the patient's T cells (a type of white blood cell) and modifying them in a lab so they can find and destroy cancer cells. The new genetically modified cells are then returned to the patient in an infusion.

At TriHealth, our goal is to serve and provide the best care for patients in the greater Cincinnati area. This program will focus on bone marrow transplant and immune effector cell therapy services. We believe in a multi-disciplinary, patient-centered approach to your care. Our team consists of trained physicians, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, and nurses who are specially trained in the field of bone marrow transplant and immune effector cell therapy. We look forward to working alongside you and your family during this healthcare journey.

TriHealth Cellular Therapies:

  • Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation can be used to treat blood cancers such as Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
  • CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) T Cell Therapy can be used to treat blood cancers such as multiple myeloma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Both autologous stem cell transplant and CAR T-cell therapy can be used to achieve complete remission or significantly extend the duration of your remission compared to standard chemotherapy alone.
