The McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital Foundation is excited to announce that a $2 million federal grant has been secured to support mental and behavioral health. The four-year grant was awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through its Rural Communities Opioid Response Program.

Improving rural behavioral health care service delivery includes increasing access to utilization of prevention, treatment and recovery services to improve the care for those affected by behavioral health conditions, which may include substance use disorder and mental health disorders.

The Coalition for a Healthy Community-Oxford Area, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital/TriHealth, Miami University, Talawanda School District, Butler County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services Board, Epiphany Community Services and McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital Foundation formed a consortium which will lead and manage the implementation plans. The consortium will communicate regularly and will meet at least quarterly to ensure successful results.

“We are excited for this opportunity to build off of the current investment from the Butler County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services Board to expand the ability of our community to address mental and behavioral health issues,” said Tim McGowan, Board of Trustees Chair. “McCullough-Hyde embraces this unique and meaningful opportunity to engage our community and to work alongside strong community partners.”

The mental and behavioral health projects, programs and publications developed as a result of the grant will impact the communities throughout the City of Oxford, Hanover Township, Milford Township, Oxford Township and Reily Township, including Miami University and its student population.

Throughout the next four years, the consortium will work to achieve the following goals:

  • Address structural-and systems-level barriers to improve rural residents’ access to quality, integrated substance use disorder and other behavioral health care services.
  • Improve the quality and sustainability of rural behavioral health care services through supporting rural health care providers to offer coordinated, evidence-based, trauma-informed substance use disorder and other behavioral health care services.
  • Improve the capacity of the behavioral health care system to address rural community risk factors and social determinants of health that affect the behavioral health of rural residents.

"Local voices and local solutions matter,” said Tyler Wash, Executive Director. “As a foundation, this funding furthers our commitment to provide local solutions to community issues. We look forward to working hand in hand with our friends and neighbors to address mental and behavioral health issues.”
