Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

HyperChamberSome wounds can only be healed from the inside out.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT) facilitates wound healing by increasing the amount of oxygen delivered to tissues.

When a person undergoes HBOT they breathe 100% oxygen, while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. This allows the oxygen to dissolve into the blood stream at greater concentration than what we normally breathe. The elevated oxygen levels promote healing processes, including angiogenesis, (the formation of new blood vessels), collagen production and enhanced white blood cell function.

There are many types of wounds that benefit from HBOT, but it is especially effective for patients who have tissue damage due to radiation treatments for cancer. These patients may have symptoms such as trouble swallowing or blood in their urine or stool.  Additionally, patients with compromised skin or muscle flaps, non-healing surgical sites, or osteomyelitis; as well as patients whose wounds have failed to heal after receiving standard wound care treatments may benefit from HBOT.
