Pharmacogenomics (PGx) Program

The Pharmacogenomic Employee Program

At TriHealth, we believe each employee’s journey to optimal health is unique. For that reason, we offer Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing Services as part of our employee health and wellness offerings.

This program offers free PGx testing to employee/team members diagnosed with certain conditions, helping health care providers tailor medication selection based on patient's unique genetic makeup and how it affects their reaction to specific medications.

The test offered through this program analyzes a wide variety of genes and medications that currently have clear guidelines all in a single test. The testing process involves collecting a DNA sample with a cheek swab that will be mailed to you and receiving the test result 2 weeks later. A pharmacist will review your results and provide a medication action plan that summarizes recommendations for current and future medications based on the genetic information, which will be available through your TriHealth MyChart account.

Because inherited DNA does not change over time, providers can use test results to make more personalized medication decisions over the course of a patient’s lifetime. The results will be saved in your medical records and can easily be retrieved in the future when needed. Since the result is visible in TriHealth’s medical records system (Epic), your result will also be visible to any provider that works at TriHealth. If requested, a copy of your test result will be provided to any provider that you specify in the enrollment questionnaire.

It is important not to change or stop taking any medications until you speak with your provider.
