Centering Pregnancy is a model of group prenatal care that includes three major components: health assessment, education and support. Eight to twelve women with similar gestational ages meet for discussions focused on pregnancy, birth, nutrition, breastfeeding, child care, safety and new mothering issues. One of the benefits of centering pregnancy is the ability to learn and share experiences while building relationships with mothers who are going through the same experience.
This video features an important service at the OB-GYN Center at TriHealth’s Bethesda North Hospital, where centering pregnancy groups are offered for Spanish-speaking new mothers, allowing them to experience all of the benefits and relationships of centering pregnancy. Johanna Jimenez-Diaz, a Community Health Worker at the center, and Jhermaine, a patient and expecting mother, talk about what the expectant mothers gain from being part of the group, and discuss the elements of the program that are unique to serving the Hispanic community.
