During the COVID-19 pandemic, health providers have seen a surge in conditions affected by stress in the body, including problems with heart rhythm, which can cause more serious problems such as strokes. In this segment of TriHealth’s Health Talk Live, Local 12’s Liz Bonis speaks with Dilesh Patel MD, an electrophysiologist with TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute, about a new technology for treating Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB) and decreasing the risk of stroke. Watchman FLX is an implant for the heart used as an alternative for blood thinners for preventing strokes in patients with AFIB.
Dr. Patel defines AFIB and why it increases the risk of stroke. He also explains how WATCHMAN FLX improves on previous WATCHMAN technology, and what that means for patients’ recovery and long-term health. Liz also speaks with Pam, a patient of Dr. Patel who had suffered a stroke in the past, but with the help of WATCHMAN FLX, has a lower chance of future strokes and a significantly improved quality of life.
