Tirza Costello, MD, credits working with AmeriCorps as her inspiration for pursuing a career in pediatric medicine. Upon graduating with honors from college, Dr. Costello spent three years with the AmeriCorps volunteer program in the county school system in Athens, OH. During her time in Athens, she was exposed to health education in schools and aided families with access to health care. Perhaps most importantly, she was drawn to the spirit and energy of the children she worked with every day and soon realized the impact she could make through pediatric medicine.Dr. Costello sees pediatric and adolescent patients, from newborns through the age of 18. She takes an active and open approach to working with and listening to her patients and their family. In fact, Dr. Costello was recognized by her residency program for her warm, approachable bedside manner. She encourages her patients to maintain good health by living an active lifestyle and practicing a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables. A member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Costello's practice focus includes:Common childhood illness (e.g., viral infections, ear infections, rashes)Well-child visitsAsthmaObesity and nutritionTo maintain her own healthy lifestyle, Dr. Costello stays active through running, hiking and yoga.
