Surrounded by medicine as a child, Dr. Fixler always knew he would find his future there. He valued the deep commitment and strong relationships developed by his father, a dermatologist. Dr. Fixler also found dermatology appealing because he could help his patients experience rapid improvement in many cases, while also handling some surgical procedures and complicated cases. He and his father practiced together for 23 years until the elder doctor’s retirement in March 2018.
Dr. Fixler sees patients for a wide range of dermatology concerns, including the biologic treatment of psoriasis. Although he primarily sees adults, he does work with children age 5 and up.
He encourages honest, open communication with his patients. He enjoys educating patients about their diagnoses and working with them on a plan for their care. He recommends everyone use sun protection and examine their skin regularly, recognizing that early detection of pre‑cancerous lesions can be life‑saving.
Married for 31 years, Dr. Fixler has five children ages 17 to 23. He enjoys reading both fiction and non-fiction, gardening and walking/running for exercise.
