James Maher, MD, PhD, has been fighting cancer for many years - first as a lab researcher developing new treatments and now in the clinic, helping patients with the latest treatments to improve their lives.
Although this can be overwhelming at times, Dr. Maher is committed to navigating all available options with the patient, including the latest clinical studies. Cancer care requires a team approach as well as a listening attitude in order to develop a plan of care specific to the patient.
This “Precision Medicine” approach uses the latest laboratory technology to provide guidance for therapy choice – something unheard of a few years ago. Specific single treatments (“targeted”) to broad chemotherapy as well as immunotherapy choices can change outcomes for the better. Dr. Maher has been instrumental in making this more widely available within the clinic and is a champion for multidisciplinary teams to provide clear choices.
Dr. Maher also has training in Cancer Prevention, caring for those with a genetic predisposition to cancer (“Hereditary Carrier”). Recommendations for treatments/monitoring to prevent development of the cancer or to find it early on is put into place.
Dr. Maher sees patients age 18 and older for a wide range of cancer treatment, non-cancerous blood disorders and genetic carriers of cancer genes.
