HIMSS Analytics has revalidated TriHealth hospitals and 130 TriHealth ambulatory and physician practice locations as HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7, given to hospitals, health systems and ambulatory facilities operating in a paperless environment and representing best practices in implementing Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
TriHealth was the first local adult hospital system to earn the award in August of 2014.
“The HIMSS Stage 7 distinction is not an Information Systems award, it is a Health System Award, a TriHealth distinction that says the tools supplied by the Information Systems Department are used by clinical and business partners to enhance experience of physicians, care teams, business partners and our patients,” said John Ward, TriHealth’s Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Only 5.5% of hospitals and 10% of clinics and practices across the country meet the Stage 7 qualifications.”
There are eight stages, 0-7, which measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology. Stage 7 represents an advanced patient record environment. The process used to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers and chief medical information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation.
“TriHealth has successfully integrated smart pump technologies with physician orders, improving patient safety and nurse confidence in high-risk oncology meds administration. It has also increased infusion charges by 44% by accurately capturing start and stop times,” said Philip Bradley, Regional Director, North America.
TriHealth will be recognized at the 2018 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition on March 5-9, 2018 in Las Vegas.
