TriHealth Receives American Excess Insurance Exchange Accolades

TriHealth, Cincinnati’s nationally-recognized health care system., is pleased to have been recognized by American Excess insurance Exchange’s Lighthouse Program as one of seven health care systems in the nation demonstrating forward-thinking approaches to advancing patient safety, clinical quality and risk reduction.

This year, TriHealth was honored with the prestigious Lighthouse Excellence Award, the program’s highest distinction. The award recognizes the top submission by a health care system across all clinical entries, showcasing a project that sets the benchmark for innovation and measurable impact in health care.

TriHealth received the Lighthouse Award of Excellence for its STANSE Stroke and NeuroSciences Emergencies Team, which conducted a system-wide Failure Mode and Effect Analysis to enhance stroke outcomes. In less than 12 months this patient safety initiative successfully implemented a tele-stroke platform and developed new protocols to provide 24/7 emergency department and inpatient stroke responses, including teleconsultations for smaller facilities. The initiative resulted notable reductions in stroke-related complications, leading to improved patient outcomes and a lowered risk of litigation.

TriHealth was also recognized by Lighthouse for projects focused on the reduction of Nulliparous/Term/Singleton/Vertex C-Section rates and reducing Surgical Site Infections in Hysterectomies.

“We are honored that AEIE has recognized TriHealth’s efforts to improve patient safety through their Lighthouse program,” TriHealth Chief Medical Officer Dr. Helen Koselka said. “Patient safety is a top priority for all TriHealth physicians, clinicians and team members who work every day to consider and implement new protocols designed to ensure patients receive the most comprehensive and safest care available. We’re grateful that the team members behind these three programs have had their efforts recognized.”

“These projects highlight the ingenuity and dedication of health care leaders who are making a measurable difference in patient care and safety,” said Joelle Hren, President of American Excess Insurance. “We are inspired by their work and remain committed to supporting initiative that foster excellence across our member organizations.”

The Lighthouse Awards & Grants Program has recognized and supported more than 100 innovative projects during its nearly two decades of operation. By fostering the sharing of best practices among member organizations the program ensures that groundbreaking initiatives can inspire and benefit the broader health care community.
