Health Talk Live: Hearing Aids and Masks

One unexpected consequence of increased wearing of masks to slow the spread of COVID-19 is that many people with hearing loss are losing their hearing aids when putting on or taking off their masks. According to Jessica Prewitt AuD, an audiologist with TriHealth, her practice has seen around 100 patients this year who have needed a replacement after losing theirs. Hearing aids can be a big investment, so this is not only an inconvenience, it can be expensive.

In this segment of TriHealth’s Health Talk Live with Local 12’s Liz Bonis, Dr. Prewitt shares some tips to help patients with hearing aids reduce the risk of losing them when putting on or taking off their masks. The segment also features Bill, a patient who demonstrates his process for removing his mask without pulling out his hearing aid.
