Choosing a care provider
Part of starting a family is choosing a health care provider. The different types of providers who can care for you during your pregnancy are:
- Obstetrician: A doctor who specializes in the care of women during their childbearing years. Obstetricians care for women with normal and high risk pregnancies and births. Find an obstetrician near you >
- Family Practice physician: A doctor who is trained in obstetrics as well as other areas. These doctors usually refer high-risk pregnancies to a specialist. In addition to caring for you during pregnancy, these doctors care for the whole family. Find a family practice physician near you >
- Certified Nurse Midwife: TriHealth Nurse Midwives are licensed as independent practitioners with the Ohio Nursing Board to provide direct care and prescribe medication. Our nurse midwives are master's degree prepared registered nurses, are certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and follow standards of care set forth by the ACNM and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
