Cardiac Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital
The cardiac surgery program at Good Samaritan
Hospital began in 1967. In fact, Good Samaritan
Hospital was a pioneer in heart surgery, performing
the first open heart surgery in a private adult hospital in Cincinnati.
Today, Good Samaritan performs 350 heart surgeries
annually, and continues to break
new ground as the first to use robotics
in open-heart surgery and the first to use the TMR
laser.
A dedicated team of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists,
perfusionists and technicians perform the following
procedures:
- Coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG)
- Off-pump
CABG
- Valve repair
- Valve replacement (tissue,
mechanical and homograft)
- Ross procedure
- MAZE procedure
- Transmyocardial revascularization
(TMR)
- Robotic-assisted surgery
- Mini-sternotomy
approach
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm repair
- Septal
defect closure
- Endoscopic vein and radial
artery harvest
- Surgical ventricular restoration (DOR procedure)
Patients and their families receive in-depth
pre- and post-operative education using
written material and one-on-one discussions with
nurses, dietitians and occupational therapists.
An ongoing program of clinical research at
Bethesda North and Good Samaritan hospitals means
that our patients have access
to emerging technology.
