Research
In October 2006, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology released a study that compared success rates of pulmonary vein ablation versus medication for atrial fibrillation. This research documents an 86 percent success rate for ablation in a-fib patients who have failed medication treatment. Read more about this study (PDF)
At Good Samaritan Hospital Heart & Vascular Center we have performed more than 150 of these procedures over the past two years and have seen similar remarkable results. Many patients who are debilitated by recurrent medication-resistant atrial fibrillation have found a permanent cure
through left atrial comparmentalization ablation. Complications are very low and patients enjoy a renewed quality of life, often free from a lifetime of medication. We have seen similar success with the minimally invasive mini-Maze and robotic-assisted Maze surgery.
