Cardiac Surgery at Bethesda North
Hospital
Bethesda North is the leading cardiac surgery program in Northern Cincinnati, performing 300 heart surgeries each year. Patients are cared for in a single dedicated unit that eliminates room transfers and allows dedicated cardiac nurses to provide care throughout the hospital stay.
A dedicated team of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists,
perfusionists and technicians perform the following
heart surgery procedures at Bethesda North hospital:
- Coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG)
- Off-pump CABG
- Valve repair
- Valve replacement (tissue, mechanical and
homograft)
- Ross procedure
- Robotic-assisted heart surgery
- MAZE procedure
- Aneurysm repair
- Repair of thoracic aortic aneurysm

- Mini-sternotomy approach
- Pacemaker implantation
- Septal defect closure
Patients and their families receive in-depth
pre- and post-operative education using videotapes,
written material and one-on-one discussions with
nurses, dietitians and occupational therapists. With spacious rooms and open visitation in the Cardiovascular Surgery Unit, family members are able to more fully participate in the patients’ care. And an education program is provided to family members prior to discharge, to give them confidence in caring for their loved one when they get home.
An ongoing program of clinical
research at Bethesda North and Good Samaritan
hospitals means that our patients have access
to emerging technology.
